To this non-theologian's ear, the term seems very much overused, and I've had my suspicions that it was not really being applied correctly, but had become something of a catch phrase. This explanation from you helps to clear some of this up for me. Thanks. Nice to see you writing again.Mikehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11909962760879873547noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19769805.post-16634036526961920432008-10-17T12:36:00.000-05:002008-10-17T12:36:00.000-05:00Josh,Sounds like you're on the right track. What do you think?
BillBill Ballhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13573859102823530876noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19769805.post-65433907674770930432008-10-17T11:43:00.000-05:002008-10-17T11:43:00.000-05:00yes, from the context in Galatians, it's pretty cl...yes, from the context in Galatians, it's pretty clear to me that Paul is not talking about eternal life...

But what DOES it mean? The Galatians were "heirs according to promise" how could they be heirs who didn't get their inheritance if the basis was promise and not flesh?

Some say that there is a difference between entering the kingdom and inheriting it...that sounds like hair splitting without much biblical support to me. Plus, they WERE heirs(3:29).

Seems like "identity as motivation" to me at this point...i.e "you're not of the flesh, you don't serve that master, you're identity is in Christ's righteousness" so "STOP IT!" you don't have to live like that anymore, so don't.

Anyway, sorry if that seems a bit random. I would love to talk with you about it.

JoshXLThttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03453559169946151894noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19769805.post-68840118474401747092008-10-17T09:09:00.000-05:002008-10-17T09:09:00.000-05:00Josh,I'm assuming you're talking about the questio...Josh,
I'm assuming you're talking about the question of whether this passage is threatening believers with the loss of eternal life, and if not what is it saying?
I'll not be home till Tuesday but I'll try to gather my thoughts on it and get back with you. Meanwhile I'll be praying.
BillBill Ballhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13573859102823530876noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19769805.post-21539053705971944072008-10-16T14:55:00.000-05:002008-10-16T14:55:00.000-05:00Hi Bill,Thanks for the post...in a couple of weeks...Hi Bill,

Thanks for the post...in a couple of weeks I will be engaging a Gal. 5:21, and you gave some helpful information.

I don't think that any of the views that I have read so far on Gal. 5:21 are satisfactory...so pray for me if you get a chance...Thanks

He is Risen,

JoshXLThttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03453559169946151894noreply@blogger.com
